Jai Ho - Movie Review
Much has been debated about the making and the story of Superstar Salman Khan's latest outing Jai Ho, prior its release. Having hit the marquee today, the movie is somewhat similar to his previous outings like Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. But what makes it different from his previous movies is its theme and story that send out a clear message to the society. Like Sanjay Dutt in Munna Bhai MMBS, Sallu Miyan rocks the film goers in his different avatar as social crusader. The film throws more light on the humane side of Dabangg Khan. Salman Khan's performance is the main highlight of the film. AR Murugadoss' story, Dilip Shukla's interesting screenplay, punch dialogues, Sajid-Wajid's songs, Sandeep Shirodkar's background score, Santosh Thundiyil's beautiful picturisation, well-choreographed action and dance sequences and a few comedy scenes are other big attractions in the film. This Sohail Khan-directed flick is an official remake of Megastar Chiranjeevi's 2006 hit Telugu movie Stalin, which itself was inspired from Hollywood movie Pay it Forward. Sticking to the original theme and story, screenplay writer Dilip Shukla has done a few changes to suit the taste of Hindi audience and Salman fans. He has added a few extra characters and more entertainment quotient to the film. The story of Jai Ho is about Major Jai Agnihotri, who is a suspended-patriotic Indian army officer. His only motive in life is to help others and make the world a better place. He creates a nation-wide movement by convincing people to do a good deed for three people, who must in turn do good deeds for three other people. Like Salman's previous movie, Jai Ho has an engrossing screenplay and it keeps you entertained right from the beginning till the end. In the first half, Salman is seen helping a disabled student write her exams and reunites a kidnapped toddler with his distraught mother. Instead of receiving thanks from them, he makes them help three people thereby forming a human goodness chain. In the second half, he is attacked by goons after he thrashes a rich guy. How his own concept - "help three people" - saves his life will form the climax. As usual, Salman Khan has delivered brilliant performance in Jai Ho. When compared to his previous outings, his role in this movie is completely different and it shows the other side of the actor. He is sure to rock the viewers with his new style statement. Daisy Shah has no scope for performance, but she impresses you with her glam quotient. Other artistes like Tabu, Sunil Shetty, Danny Denzongpa, Sana Khan, Daisy Shah, Nadira Babbar, Genelia D'Souza, Naman Jain, Mahesh Thakur, Ashmit Patel, Yash Tonk, Haroon Qazi, Mohnish Bahl, Mahesh Manjrekar have also done justice to their respective roles. Jai Ho has brilliant production values and Santosh Thundiyil's cinematography is the main attraction in the technical front. Music and background score, action, dance scenes are also big assets of the film. Overall, Jai Ho is a masala entertainer made in the usual style of Salman Khan's movies, but a message-oriented story is what makes you watch the film.
